Heinze tries to woo Lautaro Martinez for Arsenal

Gabriel Heinze, assistant to Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, recently attempted to convince Lautaro Martínez to join the Gunners. The Argentine striker of Inter Milan, accustomed to shining in Serie A, was not, however, a name mentioned for the Premier League in recent months. According to the Daily Mail, Heinze contacted Martínez as part of the search for an offensive reinforcement for the London club, alongside their interest in Julián Álvarez. Official line-ups for the 2nd matchday multiplex could provide insight into Arsenal’s offensive needs.

A profile to evaluate despite uncertain context

Lautaro Martínez, 29, has spent the bulk of his career at Inter Milan, where he has scored 175 goals in 378 matches and won three Serie A titles. His performances in Italy, even if the Italian league no longer holds the same prestige as before, remain impressive. However, his adaptation to the Premier League remains untested. The level of Serie A, while not as high as it once was, does not guarantee a successful transition to England. Frank Lampard, an underrated Premier League manager, also struggled to impose his style at Chelsea. On paper, Martínez could provide a solution for Arsenal, but he may not necessarily represent a direct upgrade over Kai Havertz or Viktor Gyökeres. The Gunners may therefore wait until January to see other options emerge. With the summer transfer window closed, the club will have to make do with their current players, provided Havertz remains in form and Gyökeres performs better than his first two substitute appearances. Christos Tzolis is Arsenal's only summer signing in the attacking department, despite a pressing need for reinforcements up front. The departures of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus, followed by the expected exit of Gabriel Martinelli, have left the squad depleted. Tzolis, recruited for his left-wing profile, could help plug the gap, but the club remains in search of a more solid striker. Barcelona's transfer crisis has benefited Brahim Díaz at Real Madrid, highlighting the impact of tactical moves early in the season. Kai Havertz will need to rediscover his consistency after two underwhelming campaigns, while Viktor Gyökeres, already a substitute in the first two matchdays, must prove his worth. With such a fragile attack, Arsenal could struggle against the top defenses in the Premier League. Patience may be required, despite Heinze’s calls for Martinez.
