FootballBeckham in talks to take over Nantes
Sophie Bartega · 28 août 2026 · 3 min de lectureFC Nantes, freshly relegated to Ligue 2 and in the midst of a sporting crisis after a disastrous start to the season and the dismissal of its coach, may soon change ownership. According to Ouest-France, the name of David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami, currently competing in the Champions League with Lille, is back in discussions for a takeover of the Loire-based club. Ouest-France, which is very well informed about the inner workings of FC Nantes, reveals that "the shadow of David Beckham" looms over a possible acquisition. "The name of David Beckham is back in the discussions," the daily newspaper specifies.
Three bids, including one at €100 million
FC Nantes has attracted three takeover bids, one of which is said to amount to €100 million. This sum would represent a dramatic increase for the club, still run by Waldemar Kita and his son. The former England captain, who has become a billionaire through his investments in Inter Miami, where Lionel Messi will play until 2028, could thus take on a new sporting challenge in Europe. His lawyer had in fact met with representatives of the Nantes collective in Bordeaux in April 2024. For the record, Beckham's net worth was estimated at £500 million a year ago. This valuation has doubled thanks in particular to the growth of Inter Miami and the success of his fashion brand,
Victoria Beckham, whose turnover exceeded £100 million last year.
A takeover that could revitalize the club
As FC Nantes seeks to bounce back after a disappointing 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season, a Beckham takeover could bring fresh momentum. The club, beset by financial and sporting difficulties, saw its coach dismissed mid-season, a sign of the crisis it is going through. If the project comes to fruition, the club could even consider changing its name or colors, although nothing has yet been decided. Meanwhile, Nantes supporters are closely following the evolution of the discussions. The question remains whether Beckham, already very busy with his projects in the United States and his business activities, will be prepared to fully commit to a European club. One thing is certain: his name, associated with that of Messi at Miami, is already making French football observers dream.
