Betis has revealed its UEFA Champions League opponents following the draw held this afternoon in Monaco. The Andalusian club will face Arsenal, FC Porto, Feyenoord Rotterdam, and Como 1907 in the group stage at home, at its La Cartuja stadium. Away from home, it will travel to take on Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, LOSC Lille, and Slovan Bratislava.
Álvaro Ladrón de Guevara, Betis' Technical Secretary, spoke about the draw. "I am happy, full of enthusiasm at the prospect of facing a draw after so many years without playing in the UEFA Champions League. It is a joy for all Betis fans, and we are very pleased with the away matches we have been given, the opponents assigned to us, and, of course, the desire to do well." When asked about the toughest rival, he replied: "I think all the matches will present their own challenges. There are clubs of the highest level, top European teams, others less accustomed to the UEFA Champions League but still good sides. If they are here, it is for a reason. I don’t know which will be the most difficult. At home, we will need to be very strong. Away, some trips will also be demanding, but this squad is ready to face anyone."
A return to the UEFA Champions League after 21 years of absence
Betis is returning to the most prestigious European competition 21 years after its last participation. An opportunity for the club to reconnect with the elite of continental football. The Technical Secretary highlighted the importance of this competition for the club and its supporters: "We will approach every match with great enthusiasm, fighting from the first to the last minute. This group is capable of anything, so complete confidence in this squad and technical staff." He also mentioned the role of fan support: "With our fans, I am sure we will become very strong at home. Away, we will have massive Betis supporter travels, that’s for sure. We will live every match to the fullest, and with a bit of luck, we can extend this Champions League adventure as long as possible."
Reunions and sporting stakes
The draw also holds special emotions for some Betis players. Álvaro Ladrón de Guevara spoke about reunions with former teammates or friends: "This match will be special for many of our players. It's always wonderful to meet not only players but also friends. At Arsenal, we have Eneko, who was a rehab specialist and spent many years at the club. It will be a pleasant moment to reconnect with these bonds." He also recalled that some Betis footballers could face clubs where they have previously played. An opportunity to measure the progress made and to confront old challenges. The club is banking on a gradual approach, without setting any specific objectives other than enjoying each stage of the competition.
