Chaves has officially announced the signing of Ivorian midfielder Mohamed Fofana for the Liga Portugal. The player, who comes from Marfinense, joins the Trás-os-Montes club for the 2026-2027 season.

A new reinforcement to strengthen the midfield

With this arrival, Chaves has bolstered its squad after a season opener marked by a 2-2 draw against AVS in Trás-os-Montes. The club, now competing in Liga Portugal, is relying on experienced profiles to consolidate its place in the Portuguese football elite. Mohamed Fofana, who has played for Marfinense, brings additional experience to the group led by the current coach. This signing comes just weeks after the arrivals of other recruits such as Júnior Mendes and Ivo Vázquez, who have strengthened the attack and defense respectively. Chaves continues to structure itself to approach the season with ambition.

A packed schedule awaits the Trás-os-Montes club

Chaves is preparing to host Felgueiras in the Liga Portugal, a match that will take place in Oliveira de Azeméis. This fixture is part of an already busy calendar for the club, which will need to deliver consistent performances to avoid relegation. After a promising start to the season, the players from Trás-os-Montes will have to confirm their consistency. The club, known for its commitment to its supporters, is also focusing on an accessible pricing policy, as evidenced by the debates surrounding €80 tickets for the match against Benfica. A strategy aimed at maintaining high attendance despite sporting challenges.

A club with a rich history

Chaves is no stranger to making waves in Portuguese football. The club has seen iconic players pass through its ranks, such as Eustáquio, who was courted by Sporting before joining Cruz Azul. More recently, local talents like Sérgio Conceição’s son have also worn the Trás-os-Montes club’s jersey. With a history marked by ups and downs, Chaves remains an endearing club, capable of surprising as evidenced by its intense matches against opponents like AVS. The supporters hope this season will be the opportunity to shine once again, despite the challenges ahead for the team.
