Tenerife makes a strong move in the transfer market. The club officially announced on Sunday the arrival of Christian Gomis, a striker on loan from Schalke 04 until June 30, 2027. The contract includes an option to buy, giving sporting director Manu Guill the freedom to exercise the option if the player impresses during his season in the Segunda División.

At 26 years old, Gomis brings a different dimension to the club's attack, which is accustomed to having Enric Gallego as the main reference. The new signing, standing at 1.85 meters, can play as a central striker, deploy on the wings, or exploit spaces left by opposing defenses. His speed is his main asset: during the last Bundesliga 2 season, he was measured at over 36 km/h, a figure that speaks for itself. His profile perfectly matches Álvaro Cervera's offensive vision, which seeks greater mobility and variety in the attacking sector.

A career marked by speed and offensive explosion

Born in Almería and of Senegalese descent, Gomis built much of his experience in Switzerland. His offensive breakthrough came in the 2022-2023 season, where he scored 14 goals for Stade Nyonnais in the Promotion League. This tally allowed him to finish as the league's top scorer and play a key role in his team's promotion. Following this standout performance, he moved to the Swiss Super League, where he found the net five times in 27 matches. His qualities caught the attention of Schalke 04, which spent €1.5 million to sign him. In Germany, he made 19 appearances in the Bundesliga but scored just once in a season where the club returned to the top flight after an absence. Now, he is changing countries and ambitions: heading to Tenerife, where the challenge will be to regain his consistency and efficiency in front of goal.

Manu Guill keeps a free transfer option in reserve

The summer transfer window is not yet completely closed for the Canarian club. Manu Guill, the sporting director, confirmed that Tenerife still has a free transfer slot and that a final deal is underway to complete the squad before the definitive closure of the transfer window, scheduled for this Tuesday. One potential signing involves the arrival of ‘Chimy’ Ávila, while the club has already secured its left flank with Roko Jureskin. The next few hours are set to be decisive for the club, which is banking on speed and versatility to bounce back in the Segunda División.

Sporting de Gijón, currently leading after winning all its opening matches, is setting the tone in the Segunda División. With this new signing, Tenerife aims to play the spoiler and establish itself firmly at the top of the table. The question remains whether Gomis can adapt to the pace of Spanish football and emerge as a credible alternative to Enric Gallego.
