Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage has assured that he expects to remain at Selhurst Park despite speculation about a possible departure.
Ismaila Sarr, who scored 21 goals across all competitions for Palace last season, has been the subject of interest from Liverpool, who are looking to strengthen their attack before the transfer window closes on September 1. Discussions between Liverpool and Palace over a potential move for Sarr, who is under contract until 2029, have therefore stalled for now. Sage confirmed this stance: "For now, yes, because with three years left on his contract, it's not easy for him to leave. I understand that for everyone to have this kind of contact [from Liverpool] is difficult, because it's a tough decision. But for now, he's with us. He's under contract." Sarr, currently sidelined with a groin injury, will miss Friday’s Premier League match against Manchester City. "He's injured and maybe we can draw a link between his injury and the situation. But for me, he's honest and I have no problem with that. We just want him back on the pitch as soon as possible."
Liverpool turn to Barcola after Sarr failure
Liverpool has reignited talks with Paris Saint-Germain over Bradley Barcola, according to sources cited by ESPN. The French club rejected an initial bid of around £90 million ($122.3 million) earlier this month, demanding €135 million for the French international. Both parties believe a deal remains possible, with PSG expecting an improved offer within 24 to 48 hours. "All parties believe a deal is still possible," the same source adds. Liverpool has already agreed personal terms with Barcola, though the 23-year-old is in no rush to leave Paris and could remain at the club. A potential sale of another player, linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, could provide the funds Liverpool needs to complete a move for Barcola. The information comes from PA and ESPN journalist Julien Laurens.
Mateta also retains Sage’s trust
Pierre Sage also spoke about Jean-Philippe Mateta, highlighting his positive attitude towards the club. "He has the demeanor of someone who is happy to be here, who wants to be here, and who is ready to stay for the entire season," the coach said. "I don’t see a player who has an issue with the club or with us." Crystal Palace, which has officially appointed Pierre Sage as manager for three years, is banking on the stability of its squad despite external interest.
Offers for players like Bowen could also influence the club’s decisions in the coming days before the transfer window closes.
