Liverpool set to sell one of its key players after reaching agreement for future transfer. After spending over €400 million last season, the Reds have had a quieter summer this time, notably signing Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Muñoz to strengthen the squad under new manager Andoni Iraola. With a fifth-place finish last season and the departure of Arne Slot, the rebuilding process is underway at Anfield, and another iconic player could be next to leave. Liverpool is reportedly close to an agreement for the sale of Curtis Jones to Inter Milan.

A player less used by Arne Slot

Curtis Jones, sidelined by Arne Slot last season, is being pushed out of the club. The midfielder, a Liverpool academy graduate, made his first-team debut in 2018 and impressed in a dramatic FA Cup win over Everton in January 2020, later establishing himself as a regular starter under Jürgen Klopp. However, last season, he featured in just 49 matches across all competitions, with only half of his Premier League appearances coming as part of the starting XI. Slot instead favored Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch in midfield, behind new signing Florian Wirtz. According to reports by FourFourTwo, Curtis Jones had nearly left in January, and his desire to join Serie A has not waned. His agents are now actively pursuing the move, believing Liverpool will relax its financial demands, estimated at less than €40 million.

Inter Milan, a club ready to act late

Negotiations are said to be well advanced, with a source from Transfermarkt valuing Jones at €35 million. Sport Witness, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, states that the midfielder is the "ultimate transfer wish" of Inter Milan manager Cristian Chivu. The Italian side, which has already signed John Stones and Djed Spence from England this summer, may make one last move to bolster their squad before defending their Serie A title. Observers suggest Inter could finalize the deal "late," as the club is known to do. Liverpool, meanwhile, kicks off the new Premier League season against Newcastle United. This possible departure of Curtis Jones is part of a renewal dynamic at Liverpool, where several key players could follow suit. The club has already lost players like Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah, marking the end of an era under the Reds' colors. New manager Andoni Iraola must now navigate a squad in flux while attempting to address departures with targeted signings. If the agreement with Inter Milan materializes, Liverpool will secure a significant sum while losing an iconic player from the Klopp era. Fans will need to get used to seeing new faces in the squad as the club aims to recapture its former excellence. Arne Slot, for his part, has denied rumors of his departure from Liverpool following his dismissal.
