Nottingham Forest has entered the race to sign Senegal international midfielder Pape Matar Sarr from Tottenham Hotspur. The East London club could leave North London before the summer transfer window closes, according to the latest information shared by insider Ben Jacobs on X.
Jacobs confirmed that Forest had joined a growing list of clubs interested in the 23-year-old, alongside Monaco and Besiktas, which have also made enquiries. “Nottingham Forest have joined the race for Pape Matar Sarr, as revealed last night by @LastWordOnSpurs. Monaco and Besiktas have also made enquiries. Sarr is expected to leave the club between now and the end of the transfer window,” he wrote. Forest’s interest adds another Premier League option for the Senegalese midfielder, while Turkish club Galatasaray has also inquired about his availability. Spurs are reportedly open to a loan deal with a potential option or mandatory purchase clause attached. With the deadline approaching, negotiations are expected to intensify to determine Sarr’s next destination.
A midfielder pushed towards the exit by Tottenham’s recruitment
Sarr’s imminent departure is part of a major overhaul of Tottenham’s midfield under manager Roberto De Zerbi. The 23-year-old Senegalese international has been pushed to the fringes of the squad following the club’s heavy summer spending. The arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali have significantly increased competition in midfield, alongside existing options such as Conor Gallagher, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Archie Gray. As a result, Sarr’s prospects of regular playing time for the 2024/25 season have drastically diminished. After limited appearances in pre-season, De Zerbi has given the green light for the box-to-box midfielder’s departure, with the player now seeking to reignite his Premier League career by securing consistent game time.
Forest offers Sarr a lifeline
A move to Nottingham Forest would present Sarr with an ideal opportunity to regain a starting role and revive his career in England. The club, managed by Steve Cooper, is in need of midfield reinforcements and could offer the central role Sarr has been seeking after months of frustration at Tottenham. The race is shaping up to be tight among several suitors, but Forest now has a strong hand to play in attracting the Senegalese midfielder. With the transfer window accelerating, Sarr may have found his next challenge before the deadline.
