Nottingham Forest are looking to sign Crystal Palace right-back Daniel Munoz as part of their major summer overhaul. According to the BBC, the two clubs are in "advanced discussions" over a potential transfer before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

Forest have appointed Oliver Glasner as their new manager this summer, the former Palace boss who would like to bring Munoz to the City Ground. The player has already made 109 appearances for the Eagles and won the FA Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League under Glasner's guidance. "A deal between the two clubs could be close as the transfer deadline approaches on Tuesday," the BBC adds. The transfer fee is reported to be "up to €25 million."

A double coup for Forest and an inevitable departure for Palace

Crystal Palace, who do not want to lose an important first-team player, know that Munoz, 30, wants to leave and has just two years left on his contract. This makes it the ideal time to sell him for a financial return. Munoz's arrival would represent a potentially very shrewd signing for Forest. Forest have already spent big this summer, splashing out €116 million on Eliot Anderson in June, leaving them with plenty of financial flexibility. Despite a point shared with Liverpool today, Forest do not yet look like a fully cohesive unit, but with Glasner at the helm, a quality squad and funds available, they look set for a European place rather than a relegation battle in the years ahead.

A weakened rival and a key signing

The fact that this transfer would weaken a direct competitor like Palace while strengthening their own squad is a double advantage for Forest. The club is banking on an ambitious strategy to establish itself among England's footballing elite, and Munoz could be one of the key pieces in that puzzle. All that remains is to see whether the Colombian full-back, who made his mark at Crystal Palace, can replicate that form in the Championship. One thing is certain: if the deal goes through, it will send a strong signal of Forest's ambition to compete among the big boys. And Palace, for their part, will have to rebuild without one of their key players.
