Guinea has contacted its neighbor Senegal to consider a joint bid to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This initiative comes four years after Guinea was stripped of hosting the 2025 edition due to delays in infrastructure development. The announcement was reported by Inside World Football.
A regional collaboration for an ambitious project
The two West African nations aim to combine their efforts to present a strong and competitive bid. The idea of a joint hosting arrangement could enhance their chances of success against potential rivals. This proposal aligns with a trend of neighboring countries working together for major sporting events. Guinea, which has previously bid multiple times, had its 2025 hosting rights revoked due to delays in stadium and infrastructure construction—a lesson that could shape this new initiative.
A sporting calendar in flux
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, originally planned for Guinea, was ultimately awarded to another nation. The 2026 tournament will be held in Morocco, while the 2027 AFCON is already set for Côte d'Ivoire. The proposed Guinea-Senegal bid for 2032 thus fits into an already established schedule for the coming years. Discussions between the two federations could lead to an official declaration in the coming months, provided logistical and financial conditions are met. Such a bid would indeed require a strong commitment from both countries and their partners.
