Eight FPL Players to Consider for Your Team

Eight FPL Players to Consider for Your Team

Have you already chosen your team for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) or are you still hesitating? According to BBC experts, eight players could help you score points this season. Here are their recommendations, excluding obvious premium choices like Bruno Fernandes or Erling Haaland.

Midfielders at affordable prices

Florian Wirtz (£7.5m) is currently owned by just 14% of managers, making him a great differential. Under Andoni Iraola, the German player is now deployed as a true "number 10," positioned behind striker Alexander Isak. The Spanish coach has confirmed he wants to use him in this central role, which should give him more touches in the box and greater involvement in Liverpool’s goals. After a promising but incomplete first Premier League season, Wirtz could finally flourish in this new system. Dominik Szoboszlai (£7m), Liverpool’s second-highest FPL scorer last season with 160 points, remains an interesting option despite Wirtz’s arrival. The Hungarian scored 13 goals across all competitions and offers both offensive and defensive potential. Liverpool begin their season with five consecutive winnable matches (Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich, Fulham, Bournemouth), which could allow him to shine early. His versatility may also ease concerns about his playing time, despite Wirtz’s repositioning. Finally, Pascal Gross (£5.5m) is one of the most reliable budget midfielders. Owned by fewer than 11% of teams, he is expected to take Brighton’s set pieces following Danny Welbeck’s departure to Chelsea. He has already scored a penalty and provided an assist from a free kick in pre-season. His involvement in dead-ball situations and central role in Brighton’s play make him a discreet but effective asset for funding more expensive stars.

Underrated goalkeepers and defenders

Antonin Kinsky (£4.5m) could be the surprise goalkeeper of the season. The Czech ended last season on a high under Roberto De Zerbi, starting every game. Despite the presence of Guglielmo Vicario, Kinsky appears to be the Italian manager’s first choice. His attractive price tag and potential for clean sheets make him an interesting punt for teams looking to optimise their budget. Dominic Calafiori (£5.5m) is an economical defensive option for Arsenal. The English left-back was mostly a starter last season and could benefit from Mikel Arteta’s potential switch to a three-at-the-back system. His attacking profile and the Gunners’ defensive solidity make him a relevant choice, especially as Gabriel (£8m) now exceeds most budgets. However, the presence of Cristhian Mosquera (£5.5m) in defence could limit his playing time if Arsenal sign another defender and Saliba returns sooner than expected. Nuno Tavares (£5m) is another full-back to watch, particularly at Nottingham Forest. Under Oliver Glasner, the Reds could adopt a five-at-the-back formation, giving Tavares more space to bomb forward on his flank. The fifth-best defender in FPL last season with five goals or assists, he could benefit from a more solid defence and better scoring opportunities. ### High-potential forwards Cole Palmer (£8m) has confirmed his star status at Chelsea with 15 goals and nine assists in his first Premier League season. The second-highest-scoring FPL forward among attackers, he is now cheaper than some direct rivals. With no European competition this season, the Blues could focus more on the league, which may allow him to replicate his performances. The only risk lies in competition with Danny Welbeck for minutes. Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6m) is the third-most-owned forward in FPL, behind Haaland and Joao Pedro. Despite slightly underperforming his xG (14 goals from 15.57 xG), he remains a dangerous attacker, an undisputed starter and the designated penalty taker for Leeds. The Whites, now well-organised under Daniel Farke, have boosted their creativity with signings like Harry Wilson (£6.5m), who provided nine assists last season. With easier fixtures early in the season, Calvert-Lewin could finally justify his price and stats.
