Inter Milan aims to sign Curtis Jones from Liverpool

The Italian club Inter Milan is stepping up its pursuit of Liverpool to sign Curtis Jones for less than the Reds’ valuation. The England international midfielder is in the final year of his contract, which gives the Italian champions reason to believe a deal can be struck. Milan’s executives are in need of a mobile midfielder who can carry the ball, press aggressively and slot into multiple roles, especially with Davide Frattesi’s future uncertain. Their transfer window has already seen the arrivals of John Stones to bolster the defence and Aleksandar Stanković to strengthen the midfield, but Jones would add extra intensity in the Premier League and technical security. According to the Daily Mail, Inter is prepared to raise its offer to around €35 million after previous proposals were rejected, while Liverpool is holding out for a fee closer to €40 million. The Guardian confirms the gap between the two clubs is narrowing, though Liverpool remains reluctant to part with a homegrown player who is a favourite of manager Andoni Iraola. Jones would give Cristian Chivu an energetic, pressure-resistant option alongside Nicolò Barella and Hakan Çalhanoğlu. A potential Jones move could also pave the way for Frattesi’s exit, initially eyed by Nottingham Forest. Several Premier League sides, including Tottenham and Arsenal, are monitoring Jones, which could strengthen Liverpool’s negotiating position. For Inter, acting quickly looks wise, lest the bidding war escalates. A €35 million fee is close to the player’s market value, but add-ons or a sell-on clause may be required to persuade Liverpool to sell. The English midfielder is not the only target: Liverpool has also tabled an offer for Bradley Barcola at PSG, while Yan Diomande is courting English clubs for a transfer. Jones’s situation highlights the growing challenge clubs face in holding onto talent amid surging interest from European outfits.
