Arsenal and Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Gabriel Jesus. The 29-year-old Brazilian must now undergo his medical examination in Spain this Monday before signing a two-year contract with an option for a third season.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on X, stating that the transfer fee amounts to €10 million (£8.5 million) plus potential bonuses for Arsenal. The Gunners' management has allowed Jesus to travel to Barcelona to complete the medical tests.
A departure that reshuffles the deck at the Emirates
This transfer brings an end to three and a half years of collaboration between Arsenal and Gabriel Jesus, who was excluded from Mikel Arteta’s plans. His departure opens up opportunities for the Gunners, particularly in their pursuit of striker Julian Alvarez. Arsenal are reportedly willing to spend over £120 million to sign the Argentine, who is currently blocked at Atlético Madrid due to his club’s refusal to let him join their rivals Barcelona. According to reports, Atlético have even discussed a potential transfer to the Premier League with Arsenal. The sale of Jesus frees up squad space and wage budget capacity, allowing the Gunners to strengthen their attack before the transfer window closes. The London club also remains linked to a possible exit for Gabriel Martinelli, suggesting a major overhaul of their offensive sector.
Alvarez still in the crosshairs despite obstacles
If Arsenal manage to finalize Alvarez’s arrival, they would replace Jesus with one of Europe’s top strikers, adding another attacking option to an already strong squad. For now, the Brazilian is heading to Catalonia, where his medical is already scheduled. Once the formalities are completed, he will officially become a Barcelona player, ending his North London adventure. The question remains whether the Gunners can complete their other transfer before the window shuts. Alvarez’s situation remains complex, but Arsenal are heavily invested in the deal to bolster their attack. If successful, Arteta would have an exceptional attacking duo for the remainder of the season.
