The pots and their representatives
Pot 1 includes the top eight ranked teams: Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Barcelona. Pot 2 features Borussia Dortmund, Roma, Sporting CP, Aston Villa, FC Porto, and Manchester United, among others. Pot 3 comprises Feyenoord, Lille, Bodo/Glimt, Napoli, RB Leipzig, Villarreal, Fenerbahçe, and Shakhtar Donetsk. Pot 4 includes Slavia Prague, Slovan Bratislava, VfB Stuttgart, AEK Athens, LASK, Como, Lens, and Viking. Each club will face two teams from each pot, totaling eight matches. Key fixtures to watch
Among the most anticipated matchups, Real Madrid face Arsenal in the opening matchday, while PSG take on FC Barcelona. Liverpool and Atlético Madrid also meet early on, as do Manchester City and Real Madrid. These clashes promise intense action from the first whistle. Fans can also look forward to fixtures like Bayern Munich vs Manchester United, Arsenal vs Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool vs Porto. These games are set to be major tests for the clubs ahead of the rest of the competition. The league phase, replacing the old group stage, is expected to be more competitive and unpredictable. With just eight matches, every point counts, and surprises could be plentiful. Clubs will need to manage their squads carefully to avoid injuries and underperformance. The league phase matches will kick off this autumn, with a final scheduled for spring 2027. Fans can already prepare for an edition packed with twists and turns. The eleven Spanish world champions denied a tribute at San Mamés will miss out on this new format.
