Liverpool have submitted an improved offer of €60 million for Brighton’s attacking midfielder Yankuba Minteh after the Seagulls rejected their initial €50 million proposal, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Negotiations between the two Premier League clubs are ongoing.

Verbal agreement on personal terms

Romano revealed on X that Liverpool’s total bid for Minteh now stands at €60 million. This follows Brighton’s rejection of their first €50 million offer for the 22-year-old Gambian midfielder. The Reds have also reached a verbal agreement with the player on personal terms, with Minteh keen to join Anfield. The expert confirmed that Liverpool and Minteh have broadly agreed on contract terms, with the player in agreement with the club’s project. However, Brighton has rejected today’s €60 million offer, though discussions continue.

Minteh not a replacement for Barcola, but an addition

Liverpool’s pursuit of Minteh is particularly significant, as the midfielder is not being considered as a replacement for Bradley Barcola. Romano clarified that the Reds want to sign Minteh in addition to the Parisian midfielder, who remains their primary target. Negotiations with PSG over Barcola are ongoing, with Liverpool exploring the possibility of signing both attackers as part of a major overhaul of their attacking line. A double signing of Barcola and Minteh would give the Reds greater depth and variety on the wings but would represent a substantial financial commitment, particularly with Minteh’s €60 million price tag. The Gambian midfielder is currently recovering from surgery on his right tibia, sustained during a pre-season injury against AS Roma. With a recovery timeline estimated between two and three months, Minteh will not be available immediately, making him a long-term investment rather than a quick fix for upcoming matches.

A bold gamble despite uncertainties

Despite the optimism at Anfield, a €70 million offer for Minteh could still materialize. The player, who has scored just nine Premier League goals in two seasons with Brighton, is currently injured and still developing. Committing such a sum to a recovering player—while also financing a record fee for Barcola—represents a bold and unusual move from Liverpool’s hierarchy. For context, Liverpool initially offered €50 million before increasing their bid to €60 million. Negotiations remain ongoing, but Brighton has already rejected the latest proposal.
