Manchester United are searching for a left-back to support Luke Shaw, with four potential signings under consideration.
United have had a subdued summer transfer window, focusing on midfield reinforcements by signing Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea. While these deals strengthen their center of the pitch, the club still seeks a quality backup at left-back for Shaw, who remains injury-free but in need of competition.
Four left-back candidates identified by TeamTalk
TeamTalk has outlined four left-back options United are considering. Antonee Robinson tops the list as one of the Premier League’s best left-backs but at 29, his age and potential cost make him less appealing to the club, which prefers younger players. The Red Devils are prioritizing a teenager or early-twenties prospect. Lewis Hall, 21, has impressed at Newcastle but demands a high price. Meanwhile, two lesser-known options—Jorge Salinas of Racing Santander and Joaquin Seys of Club Brugge—offer affordability but come with higher risk due to their unproven status.
Arsenal youth product ruled out
Myles Lewis-Skelly, an Arsenal academy graduate, was never a realistic target. Both Arsenal and MLS are unwilling to part with the young defender, closing that potential avenue for United. The search for Shaw’s backup continues, with United balancing cost, age, and potential in their shortlist of candidates. United’s summer activity centered on midfield upgrades, leaving the left-back position as a remaining need. The club’s preference for younger talent may limit their options, with Robinson’s age and Hall’s price tag posing significant challenges. Salinas and Seys, while cheaper, represent gambles due to their limited top-flight experience. The Red Devils’ approach reflects a broader strategy of investing in long-term potential, even if it means accepting higher risk in certain positions.
