Manchester United sees financial opportunity slip after Real Betis refuse to sell Antony for €50 million. The Spanish club declined a transfer proposal for the Brazilian forward, who was developed at Manchester United. Thanks to a resale clause included in the initial contract, the Red Devils would have received around €18 million if the deal had gone through. This sum could have been used to strengthen the Manchester squad, as the club looks to bolster its team following qualification for the Champions League.
Antony, a key asset for Real Betis
Since his move to Spain, Antony has established himself as a key player for Real Betis. The Brazilian has rediscovered his form and confidence after difficult seasons at Manchester United. His positive impact on the pitch has been praised by supporters, who now view him as a fan favorite.
The Andalusian club appears determined to keep him, despite summer interest. Real Betis officials justified their refusal by highlighting Antony’s central role in their squad. The player, who never managed to establish himself permanently at Manchester United after arriving from Ajax, has reinvented himself in Spain. He now plays in La Liga with ambition, hoping to shine at the highest level.
A missed opportunity for Manchester United
The Manchester club, in search of reinforcements for the new season, could have used the €18 million from this transfer to strengthen its attack or defensive midfield. Qualification for the Champions League, secured this season, imposes additional demands in terms of squad quality.
The club’s management will now need to find alternative solutions to finalize their transfer window. Antony’s situation highlights the financial challenges facing English clubs, particularly after costly transfers. If Real Betis maintains its stance, Manchester United may have to adjust its recruitment ambitions or make another offer to sway the Spanish club. The coming weeks will be decisive for the player’s future.
