Naples suffer home defeat against Como of Allegri

Napoli endured a nightmare evening for their Serie A debut. Massimiliano Allegri’s men fell to a 1-2 defeat against Como on Sunday at a raucous Diego Maradona Stadium. It was the Italian coach’s first loss just two matches into his tenure at the helm of the Naples club. The visitors, meanwhile, savored their first win of the season after a draw at Udinese in matchday one.

Baturina, Como’s golden boy

Croatian midfielder Martin Baturina was the standout performer. The youngster scored a goal and provided an assist. He opened the scoring with a long-range strike in the 17th minute, then teed up Greek striker Anastasios Douvikas in the 34th. The promoted side claimed their first top-flight victory of the campaign—a historic milestone for the Lombard club. Despite Rasmus Hojlund’s 30th-minute strike, which halved the deficit before halftime, Napoli could not find an equalizer despite creating numerous chances.

Allegri suffers first home defeat as Napoli boss

Massimiliano Allegri, 59, had a baptism of fire. The former Juventus and AC Milan manager—six-time Serie A champion—suffered his first loss in his very first home game in charge of Napoli. A night to forget for the Italian, who had begun his tenure with a 2-0 away win over Genoa. Allegri, the second-most decorated coach in Serie A history behind Giovanni Trapattoni (seven titles), must quickly rediscover his touch to avoid further underwhelming performances. Napoli, last season’s Serie A runners-up, now face a crucial Champions League opener away to FC Porto at Estádio do Dragão.

Napoli searching for answers

The loss to surprise Serie A newcomers Como raises questions about the depth and cohesion of Napoli’s squad. Despite several high-profile summer signings, Allegri’s side has struggled to find its rhythm. The club must regroup swiftly, especially with a daunting Champions League fixture looming. After dominating last season, Napoli will need greater precision and composure to maintain their status among Italy’s elite.
