Pedro Acosta leads Barcelona MotoGP practice despite the rain

Pedro Acosta stood out during the opening free practice sessions of the MotoGP season in Barcelona, despite challenging weather conditions. The Spanish rider, competing under the Tech3 GASGAS Factory Racing team, topped the day’s timesheet, leading his rivals in torrential rain. Organizers were forced to cut the session short due to the adverse weather, limiting track time for all participants. The wet conditions turned the circuit into a treacherous slippery track, forcing riders to adapt their riding styles. Acosta, despite the difficult circumstances, managed to shine. His lap time of 1:42.345 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya put him nearly a second ahead of second-placed Johann Zarco. The Frenchman, struggling with his bike, failed to match the pace set by the Spaniard. The session saw several crashes, including one involving Marco Bezzecchi, who lost control of his bike in the final sector. The Italian rider was able to resume without injury, but the incident highlighted the risks on a waterlogged track. Only 18 of the 22 riders managed to set a timed lap before the session was cut short. These opening tests in Barcelona are part of teams’ preparations for the upcoming season. Manufacturers used the session to test new setups and validate machine performance. Acosta, already having delivered a promising 2024 season, could cement his status as a title contender with this strong wet-weather performance. The discipline remains one of the most demanding in motorcycle racing, where every detail matters. The next tests will take place at the Portimão circuit in Portugal, where riders hope for better conditions to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the championship start. In the meantime, teams are analyzing the data collected in Barcelona to adjust their strategies.
