Tottenham has finalized a loan agreement with Manchester City to secure the services of Omar Marmoush, a 27-year-old Egyptian striker. The London club has a mandatory purchase option worth €60 million, effective next summer. Marmoush will undergo a medical examination in the coming days. His arrival follows that of Savio, also from City, whom Tottenham signed for €75 million last Tuesday. Tottenham and City agree terms for Marmoush.
A versatile profile to address offensive needs
Marmoush, an Egyptian international, joined Manchester City in January 2023 for €59 million from Eintracht Frankfurt. However, he has often been overshadowed by Erling Haaland, who has been regularly deployed as the starting striker. Marmoush made a substitute appearance in City’s 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal and remained on the bench during the opening Premier League fixture, a 2-1 home win over Bournemouth. At Tottenham, Marmoush could provide a solution to recurring offensive issues. Dominic Solanke, the club’s striker, has endured a series of injuries over the past 18 months, while Richarlison is nearing the end of his contract. Marmoush, primarily a striker, has demonstrated versatility during his time at Frankfurt and Manchester City, where he has been deployed as a lone striker, second striker, or even on the left flank. This ability to play in multiple positions could suit the playing style of Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, who favors movement and positional changes among his attackers to create space.
Mixed statistics at Manchester City
In 62 matches across all competitions in City's colors, Marmoush scored 16 goals. During the 2025-26 season, he featured in 36 games and netted eight goals. However, his playing time in the Premier League decreased, with only eight starts and around 700 minutes played, a figure lower than that recorded when he arrived midway through the previous season. He scored three goals and provided three assists in the league, with an expected goals (xG) ratio of 3.53, close to his actual output. His lack of playing time can be attributed to competition with Haaland and City's offensive reinforcements. Tottenham has already spent over €312 million on transfers this summer. The club has signed Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, and Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. In defense, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, along with goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, joined as free transfers.
