Tottenham has officially announced the arrivals of two players from Chelsea on the last day of the transfer window: winger Mykhailo Mudryk and defender Tosin Adarabioyo. The former joins Spurs on loan until the end of the season, while the latter, aged 28, has signed a permanent deal worth up to £12 million.

Mudryk returns under De Zerbi’s management

Ukrainian international Mudryk, 25, reunites with Roberto De Zerbi, his former manager at Shakhtar Donetsk before his move to Chelsea in 2023. The young player, who resolved a doping case with the Football Association last month, has not featured in an official match since November 2024. "It’s a great feeling, and I’m just eager to start training and playing for this club," he said. "I’m a player who brings speed and creativity, and I want to help both in attack and defense. I want to make the fans excited." De Zerbi, who has previously worked with Mudryk, praised his potential: "I managed Misha earlier in his career, so I know exactly what he can bring to our team. He has the quality to change a game with his speed and individual duels. He’s an exciting offensive talent." The London club holds an option to make his loan permanent for £75 million.

Adarabioyo, the 10th signing of a costly summer

With this transfer, Tottenham completes its squad for a summer marked by spending exceeding £300 million on transfers. Central defender Adarabioyo, a former England under-19 international, made 70 appearances for Chelsea since joining from Fulham in the summer of 2024. "I’m at an important point in my career, and after speaking with the manager, I think this is a very good fit," he said. "He wants the team to play with courage, and that’s something I’ve always looked for. I want to give my best to push this club where it deserves to be." He will replace Kevin Danso, who has been loaned to Sunderland. Adarabioyo has played under Graham Potter, Frank Lampard, Mauricio Pochettino, and Enzo Maresca at Chelsea, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists in 73 appearances across all competitions.

A transfer window marked by disappointments

The Spurs entered the race for Mudryk late, after failing in their attempts to recruit Iliman Ndiaye, now at Manchester City, or Liverpool’s striker Cody Gakpo. Chelsea had also discussed with Leeds and rejected at least one offer for the Ukrainian. “Mudryk scored 7 goals and provided 4 assists in his first full season at Stamford Bridge,” the BBC notes. The player joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 for an initial fee of £61 million, having drawn interest from several European clubs including Arsenal. Mudryk, who has always denied having “knowingly or intentionally” taken a banned substance, said he was “grateful” to be back in action after “the hardest period” of his career. He will now line up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, just 11 miles north-east of where his career appeared to be unravelling just months ago.
