Valencia CF hosts Betis Seville this Monday for the second matchday of the La Liga. The stakes are twofold: attempting to regain confidence after a difficult start to the season and facing an opponent accustomed to European competitions.

Valencia CF under pressure after a complicated start to the season

The opening matchday ended in a 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo, but unease persists in the Mestalla stands. The supporters once again expressed their dissatisfaction with coach Carlos Corberán and the players, echoing the tensions from last season. Despite this, the team is trying to rebuild around a five-defender system, an option the coach considers viable for establishing a more solid foundation. The club will be without injured Justin de Haas, which will allow Diakhaby to start. Up front, questions remain about the insufficient offensive output in the last match. Corberán may rely on Danjuma, possibly paired with Hugo Duro, to try to energize the team and create more chances.

Betis Seville confident and reinforced

Betis approaches this away game with a victory in the opener against Real Sociedad, a direct rival. Pellegrini’s team arrives at Mestalla with positive momentum and a new signing: Irishman Troy Parrott, who could make his debut under the verdiblanco jersey as early as tonight. However, several key players remain unavailable due to fitness issues, including Diego Conde, Ruibal, Lo Celso, Abde, Morante, and Petit. The club also hopes for a mid-season reinforcement with the arrival of a defensive midfielder, with Moroccan Amrabat being a priority. In the meantime, Betis relies on its ability to perform away from home, where it has suffered only one defeat in six trips to Mestalla in recent years.

A tactical duel to watch

Valencia has opted for a more defensive setup, but Betis, accustomed to European competitions, has the necessary tools to score. If Corberán’s team can hold up physically, they may hope for more than just a draw. The match promises to be another test for Valencia CF, which is seeking to regain some composure after a turbulent start to the season.
