Tottenham has accepted a loan offer from Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Juventus, with a non-obligatory purchase option of £8.6 million. The transfer is set to be finalized with a move to Turin in Serie A.

An Italian goalkeeper departing for Juventus

Guglielmo Vicario, 29-year-old Italian international, has earned five caps for the *Squadra Azzurra* since his debut in 2024. His departure from Tottenham comes amid losing his starting position under Roberto De Zerbi. The latter has indeed promoted his replacement, Antonin Kinsky, as the first-choice goalkeeper last season. Vicario, who joined Spurs in 2023 for £17.2 million from Empoli, has made 117 appearances for the London club. To fill the void, Tottenham signed Martin Dubravka in July from Burnley to strengthen the squad and cover the position. Juventus, on the other hand, had attempted to sign Emiliano Martinez, Aston Villa’s goalkeeper, but the deal fell through. Martinez, currently sidelined due to a finger injury, will not be able to join Turin.

A summer transfer window marked by significant moves

Vicario’s loan fits into Tottenham’s squad renewal policy. The North London club has already made six signings this summer while targeting two additional offensive reinforcements. Meanwhile, several players have left the club, whether through transfer, loan, or free departure. Among them are captain Cristian Romero, English international Djed Spence, and Yves Bissouma. Juventus, seeking to strengthen its team after a difficult season, is banking on Vicario’s experience to stabilize its defense. The Turin-based club has also been involved in another transfer saga, involving Aston Villa and Zion Suzuki, but negotiations fell through. Villa is now closing in on a deal with Parma to sign the young Japanese goalkeeper.

A transfer window reshaping clubs’ ambitions

For Tottenham, this departure marks a restructuring of its squad, with a desire to rejuvenate the team while maintaining a competitive level. Juventus, for its part, is trying to rebuild after a disappointing Serie A season. Vicario’s loan, with a purchase option, provides a temporary solution for Turin while allowing Tottenham to recoup part of the investment made a year ago. Fans of both clubs will now have to adapt to these changes. For Spurs, the goal remains to regain a place in the Champions League, while Juventus aims to climb back up the Italian league standings. These moves illustrate the intensity of the summer transfer window, where every club seeks to optimize its squad for upcoming sporting challenges.
