Alvarez wants to leave Atlético Madrid

Argentine striker Julián Álvarez has made his desire to leave Atlético Madrid clear in order to pursue his dream.

At 24 years old, Álvarez is being courted by several major European clubs. Real Madrid, whose £129 million offer was rejected earlier this month, remain interested. Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Arsenal are also among the suitors. “I’ve spoken with people at the club, with those I needed to exchange views with, and the best thing for everyone is a transfer. I want to make my dream come true,” he said after Argentina’s 2-0 World Cup victory over Austria. The summer transfer window opens on June 15 and closes on September 1. “It’s not the time to talk about it, but I can’t hide it either. I want to be honest,” he added. Atlético Madrid has pointed to a €431 million release clause in Álvarez’s contract to justify their rejection of the Madrid-based club’s offer. The club has also mocked Barcelona’s attempts to sign him this summer. A contract until 2030, but a desire to leave Having arrived in Madrid in 2024 for a fee of £81 million from Manchester City, Álvarez is under contract until 2030. Yet his future remains uncertain. “We don’t know when this will be resolved,” he admitted. In the 2025-26 season, he scored 20 goals and provided nine assists in 49 matches. Sky Sports News attempted to contact Atlético Madrid for comment but has not yet received a response. European clubs circling Despite the rejection of their offer, Real Madrid maintain their interest in the Argentine striker. Barcelona and PSG, who have also expressed interest, could renew their efforts during the summer transfer window. Arsenal, for their part, remain in the running to sign him. Álvarez, who has already won the World Cup with Argentina, is now seeking a new sporting challenge. His departure from Atlético Madrid appears inevitable, even if the exact date of his transfer remains unknown.
