Liverpool can certainly aim for the Premier League title this season. That’s the view of former Reds striker Michael Owen, who says he is impressed by Andoni Iraola. According to him, the Basque coach simply needs time at Anfield to demonstrate his full potential. As the club enters a new era, few are betting on a return of the title to Merseyside, but Owen believes it is “possible.” A major challenge awaits the new coach, especially since Liverpool finished fifth in the league last season, despite winning the title just twelve months earlier.

Michael Owen, now the British ambassador for Casino.org, believes Andoni Iraola has a “construction job” ahead. He highlights being impressed by the style of play deployed by the coach during his time at Bournemouth. “He proved at Bournemouth that he is a top-level coach and has an excellent style of play,” he tells *FourFourTwo*. “I was very impressed watching Bournemouth play, and I hope that can be translated to Liverpool next season. It’s a real rebuilding job, especially with the departure of Salah and the way Liverpool finished last year, as well as the style of football desired.” Despite the scale of the task, Owen remains confident. He stresses the need for Iraola to quickly impose his style of play so the team can start stringing together wins. “Bournemouth, with all due respect, isn’t a club as big as Liverpool, so he’ll need to act fast to implement his game,” he adds. The former England international acknowledges that Liverpool have lost Mohamed Salah this summer, but this does not undermine their ambitions. He points to the quality of the players available and those who could join the club to suggest that the title is not out of reach. “Based on how Bournemouth played, if you can translate that style to Liverpool, with the current quality and what the club can recruit, then it’s possible to start aiming for the title again,” he insists. Liverpool will begin their season with a match against Newcastle United. For Owen, the potential is there, even if the pressure will be intense from the very first games. “The task is immense, but if Iraola can quickly impose his philosophy, Liverpool could surprise everyone,” he concludes. One thing is certain: the former Reds striker is not ruling out a return of the Reds to the top of English football. Liverpool is approaching this new campaign with a refreshed squad and a technical management team in the midst of rebuilding. The departure of Salah, a symbol of the club for years, marks a turning point. Yet Owen believes the overall quality can offset these changes. He notably highlights the influence of Iraola, whose methods have already proven successful at Bournemouth, where he established an offensive and dynamic style of play. Tactical challenges will be plentiful, but the new manager will also have to manage the expectations of a demanding fanbase. On paper, Liverpool starts at a disadvantage compared to clubs like Manchester City or Arsenal, accustomed to dominating the league. However, Owen notes that surprises are an integral part of football. “If Iraola manages to unite his squad around a clear identity, Liverpool could once again become a serious contender,” he analyzes. An outcome that, while risky, cannot be ruled out according to the former international.
